Valley Ranch is a Firewise USA Community

The Firewise USA® recognition program is administered by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and provides a collaborative framework to help neighbors in a geographic area get organized, find direction, and take action to increase the ignition resistance of their homes and community and to reduce wildfire risks at the local level. The Firewise USA program is a part of California’s efforts to ensure communities are prepared against wildfire, and CAL FIRE Office of the State Fire Marshal’s new Community Wildfire Preparedness & Mitigation Division works to assist local communities in receiving this designation.

Effective January 18, 2024, Valley Ranch successfully completed the criteria necessary to become a nationally recognized Firewise USA Site.

The Valley Ranch Firewise Committee will send an email survey quarterly to collect your Risk Reduction Investment.  This information will be compiled with your neighbors and reported as lump sum total to Firewise USA on an annual basis.  No other agencies will have access to this information.

Look for and complete your survey on or about April 1, July 1, October 1 and January 1

“Part of being a recognized Firewise USA® site is reporting the ongoing work residents complete each year to reduce their wildfire risks, while addressing the areas identified in their community’s wildfire assessment. Every year participating sites must submit an annual renewal to maintain their “in good standing” status.”

Every year

Educational outreach: Host an outreach event and work with neighbors on addressing items in the action plan.

Risk reduction investment: Record what your community’s efforts to reduce its wildfire risk in the calendar year. You can include any time invested and expenses your community may have had to reduce its wildfire risk.

At a minimum, each site is required to annually invest the equivalent of one volunteer hour per dwelling unit in wildfire risk reduction actions. If your site has identified 100 homes within its boundary, than 100 hours of work or the monetary equivalent which will be $29.95 per dwelling unit.
